Uisce Beatha Do Chroí Mór is a poetic Donegal Gaeltacht toast that’s interpretively translated as ‘water of life for the open and warm hearted’. We invite you to share it each time you say ‘slaínte’ while raising your glass of Croithlí premium Irish whiskey.
We’ve adopted this traditional local sentiment as our motto because it perfectly encapsulates our ethos at Croithlí Distillery. The phrase has a long history in the area, as does the story of uisce beatha itself — in fact our region of Donegal is the ancestral home of
whiskey… everywhere!
For over 1,400 years, it’s been a place of great spirit. This land has nurtured distillation — from monastic pioneers in the 6th century to the brave hillside poitín makers of more recent history.
Today, that proud legacy of creating great spirit for open and warm-hearted people lives on at Croithlí. We honour the old ways — direct fire to copper stills, double distillation, the purest Donegal water, and the finest local grain. The result?
